I’ve always had bad timing – born three weeks overdue, took 7 years to finish a four year degree…opening a community pottery studio just as we’re all hunkering down to weather a plague…
It’s with much sadness that I announce we’re postponing the Grand Opening – it’s for our community’s best, and gives me more time to “research” which cakes might be good enough to offer ya’ll when we _do_ finally meet!
In the interim, I’ve a studio myself, and can finally get around to that giant conceptual installation piece I’ve been imagining, all these years… …what? You don’t have a studio to play in, too?
Never fear! Clay kits are here: https://wiltshireceramicstudio.co.uk/whatson/at-home-kits/ We’re converting all our classes, for the time being, to kits. You’ll get all the fun squidging some mud, but can indulge in the privacy of your own den. Each kit includes a portion of clay, a project instruction sheet full of dodgy advice, some tools that might come in handy (on deposit, if you think you’d like to return them when you’re done), a friendly tutor available via video chat at your convenience, and bisque firing.
After that, you can take them home to paint yourself, or if you’d like me to glaze we can arrange that (it’s a tad extra).
So far I have, for the delight of young an old: Fairy houses, a set of three tiles, rattles, or a small figure sculpture (special priority for Easter Bunnies!!). I’ve tried to keep the ones more appealing to children affordable to families – please contact me if you happen to possess a herd, we’ll work out a fair price.
I’ll leave it up to parents to decide if their children are of age to play with clay. In general, the kits are essentially sticks, paper, and mud, but be aware, the sticks may be pokey, the mud may be less than delicious, and the paper may include intergenerational humour.
Kits will be assembled and ready to collect at a time of your choosing from Monday, 30th March – I’ll leave them outside on the bench with your name, if you’re isolating. I _can_ post the kits to you, for an additional fee (starts at £6), but please understand, if you want them fired, it’s best to bring your finished creation back to studio yourself.
It’s a pretty countryside and there’s lots of lovely walks, and flowers about, so treat yourself to some fresh air on the way to drop off/collect!
